Do you love art? Are you an artist? @ Citizen Advocacy of Ottawa / Parrainage civique d\'Ottawa

Do you love art? Are you an artist?

Whether you are visiting an art gallery or creating your own unique art at home, have you ever considered sharing your interest with a person who has a disability? Why not become matched to someone looking for friendship who loves art just as much as you do! Create artistic projects together, visit galleries, or give art lessons. Use your talents for a good cause and have fun! Youth, adults, and senior citizens are always looking for a volunteer to spend time with! Through Citizen Advocacy of Ottawa, volunteers are matched one-on-one to individuals who are either living with disabilities and/or who may be feeling lonely (our %u201Cprotégés%u201D) in an effort to help reduce isolation and vulnerability, and ultimately create a better quality of life for everyone, regardless of age or ability. Get together with your match 3-4 times per month. Enjoy the flexibility of making your own schedule and choosing activities that both you and your protégé enjoy. This can be as simple as having a cup of coffee or running errands together. IMPORTANT: All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, obtain a police check, and be willing to commit to volunteering for a minimum of 12 months. ***To complete a volunteer advocate enquiry form online, kindly visit: http://www.citizenadvocacy.org/get-involved/become-a-volunteer-advocate/volunteer-application/ Thank you for your interest in Citizen Advocacy!!

Citizen Advocacy of Ottawa / Parrainage civique d\'Ottawa /

Citizen Advocacy is dedicated to helping people with disabilities participate fully in community life. We do this by matching volunteer advocates to people with disabilities. Matches participate weekly in activities they both enjoy, planning what they\\\\\\\'ll do and when they\\\\\\\'ll do it at their own convenience. Since 1974, Citizen Advocacy of Ottawa has supported over 2,000 people with disabilities and touched the lives of many more. Because Citizen Advocacy and our volunteer advocates work at an individual level, directly with the people we support, the impact is felt on a personal as well as a community level. Volunteer advocates help increase the self-esteem and self-confidence of persons with disabilities so that they can develop a better sense of overall health. This translates into less dependency and a reduction in the use of costly health and social services. There are more than 300 men and women across Ottawa waiting, on average, 2.5 years to be matched to a volunteer advocate.
