The Guest House is a 12 bedroom bungalow located on the campus of the Perley- Rideau Veteran%u2019s Health Centre. It has been planned and designed to create a safe, homelike and supportive environment for persons in the early to mid-stage of dementia. The Guest House offers short and long-term, planned and emergency respite stays.
Volunteer Position Description
Location: Perley and Rideau Veteran%u2019s Health Centre @#5-1750 Russell Rd. Ottawa, On K1G 5Z6

Purpose: To facilitate guests to engage in activities of daily living
Responsibilities:
Facilitate guest participation in activities of daily living such as: Bed making, Tidying bedroom and common living space, Dusting, Other light household activities
Support and encourage guests to participate in leisure activities such as: Reminiscing, Current Events, Games, Trivia, Art & Music, Sing-alongs, Exercise, walks, Manicures, Special Events
Encourage guests involvement of meal preparation by: Cooking or baking, Table setting, Clean up, Assist preparing breakfast, snacks, desserts etc.
Qualifications:
Ability to interact with individuals with dementia
Capable of working as a team member
Mature, reliable, flexible
Willingness to participate in ongoing training
Ability to take initiative
Positive attitude and a sense of humor
