Catherine Casserlycatherine casserly

Now a senior citizen, Catherine has been volunteering since she was a teenager. She is the co-founder of organizations such as the Widowed Support Group of Ottawa, the Ottawa Chapter of the Canadian Guidance and Counselling Association, Communities before Cars Coalition, and the Old Ottawa West House Tour. She co-founded the Westboro Beach Community Association in 1992 and continues to serve on the board. She is Secretary-Treasurer for Ottawa Talks Israel/Palestine.

She has spent many years on her parish council where she chaired committees and projects and still continues as the parish historian. She has led the parish team for refugee sponsorships from several countries. She was a long-time member of the Archdiocesan Committee on Women and has served on the executive of the Canadian Vocational Association, the Social Planning Council of Ottawa Carleton and the Canadian Council on Social Development. Catherine has successfully acted as mentor for many young people, including coaching them on career preparation. Her guiding principle is, “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
