With a Masters degree in Social Work and a speciality in Geriatrics, she built a career serving seniors in the Ottawa Valley and surrounding communities. Cathy retired from Centretown Community Health Centre in 2011, after close to 20 years in senior management positions.
In 2008, Cathy helped found the Ottawa Senior Pride Network (OSPN), which is a volunteer-run network dedicated to building a strong, connected, visible LGBT seniors' community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender). Cathy has been a driving force in raising funds for and promoting LGBT cultural competency education for healthcare providers and senior-serving agencies. She has mentored other senior volunteers to build capacity within the LGBT community. Cathy volunteers on the OSPN Housing, End of Life Care Choices, and Coordinating Committees, working to create safe and inclusive services and residential environments for vulnerable LGBT seniors, their friends, and families.
Cathy has sat on numerous Committees and Boards, including the United Way Successful Aging Strategic Council, Unitarian House, and currently The Good Companions Seniors' Centre Board.
Cathy's dedication to the healthy development of children includes volunteering with the Grade One class at Regina Public School, hosting at-risk youth at the Haven 2 Youth Shelter program at Fourth Avenue Baptist, and weekly childcare duties with two beloved grandchildren!
