Divya came to Canada from Kuwait, however, her family originally hails from a rural part of India. Her parents came to Canada to open more educational opportunities for their children. She is proud to say that she is here today because of the support of her parents.
Divya is deeply involved in the community. She first started volunteering at Leisureworld Caregiving Centre of Madonna in 2008, assisting senior patients with daily activities. Since 2009, she has tutored struggling students in English through the Literacy Partners Program. She currently volunteers at CHEO in the Oncology/Hematology Unit where she keeps children company when times are tough. Additionally, she volunteers at OCTC Preschool where she assists children with special needs. Divya is the Treasurer/Secretary for the UOttawa World Vision Club and was the Executive Officer for The Abhilasha Project from 2012-2014
In 2015 she received the United Way Community Builder Award as well as the Mayor's Builder Award.
Divya is currently in her final year of her Science degree at the University of Ottawa, hoping to become a doctor. One of her life goals is to return to India to build a hospital in an area of need. Whenever she returns to India she volunteers with seniors and at orphanages. She believes that being part of a community means helping those around you and by volunteering she hopes to make our community a better place to live.
