Tom volunteered with Scouts Canada in the mid 1960s as a Cub leader in Alberta and in Ottawa in the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s as a Cub Leader, Trainer and an Evaluation Team member to update various national scouting programs.
For the past 34 years he has volunteered year round with the local Adaptive Para- Alpine Ski Program at Edelweiss Valley, as a ski volunteer, Ski trip co-ordinator for the para-alpine team to race at Provincial and National events, Fundraiser, Planner and held various Executive positions on their Not for Profit Corporation Board overseeing six ski programs at Ottawa Valley ski hills. He also sat on the CADS National board for six years and chaired various committees.
For the past 40 years he has volunteered with various United Way Ottawa activities: Canvasser, Team Captain, Departmental Trainer, and member of his Department’s Campaign Team in the Government of Canada annual campaign.
In 2004 he joined United Way Ottawa to volunteer on the newly formed “Reducing Barriers & Increasing Participation for People with Disabilities ” Impact Committee. That committee structure transformed and he was invited to join the Community Investment Committee (CIC) where he continues to serve to this day and assist with proposal assessments and applicants’ de-briefs. For the past 15 years he annually canvasses for the March of Dimes and the Arthritis Society. Finally, Tom regularly donates blood products and has made 234 donations so far.
