VO Workshop in Volunteer Management: Volunteer Screening

screening-640px.jpgScreening practices begin when an organization creates a new position. It is an ongoing process used to select volunteers for specific roles, and it should continue as long as a volunteer is involved with the organization. The 10 Steps of Screening give clear guidelines for developing screening policies. These policies show an organization’s commitment to safe and meaningful volunteer engagement.

Your Instructor: 

Paula Speevak joined Volunteer Canada as their Executive Director after serving as the Managing Director of Carleton University’s Centre for Voluntary Sector Research and Development. At Carleton, in the School of Public Policy and Administration, she taught a graduate course in Non-Profit Management, and at the University of Ottawa she taught undergraduate courses in Governance in the Voluntary Sector and Community Service-Learning. Prior to her focus on applied research, Paula enjoyed a 24-year career as a practitioner and senior manager in the non-profit and voluntary sector in both institutional and community-based settings, in Montréal, Ottawa and on pan-Canadian initiatives. She holds a Master of Management Degree from McGill University in the McGill-McConnell Program for National Voluntary Sector Leaders.


If paying by cheque, please make payable to Volunteer Ottawa and mail in prior to the workshop date to secure your spot. In the note section please write the date, your name and your organization. E.g., September 26 workshop - John Doe from Volunteer Ottawa.

Cancellation Policy

Receipt of registration will be confirmed by e-mail or best alternative. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received within five (5) business days prior to an event. If cancellation is received with more than five (5) business days before the event, a $5.00 administration fee will apply. Registered participants who fail to attend an event will be invoiced for the full fee, due 30 days from the date of the invoice. Registration can be transferred to another member of your organization, if you are unable to attend
