July 29, 2017
On behalf of Educate and Feed Communities Foundation (EFC Foundation) we would like to invite you, and your families and friends, to our first ever barbecue fundraiser. We are a new non-profit organization based in Ottawa and we are excited to announce the start of our first project in Haiti - a school in the town of Canaan.
Many Haitian communities are still dealing with the aftermath of the earthquake of 2010 that left 300,000 dead and 1.5 million people displaced. Around 3000 schools were destroyed and damaged. While the Haitian people received aid and support, there remain 2.5 million people who are still waiting a full seven years after the earthquake. Many communities, such as Canaan with less than 90,000 people, were neglected by other aid agencies because of their size. Further worsening the situation was the catastrophic devastation done by Hurricane Matthew in October 2016.
In collaboration with community members, EFC Foundation plans to help by building a school and providing education programs. This is a long-term solution for the citizens of Canaan, strengthening their ability to gain livelihoods and become self-sufficient. But to do this we need your help. All proceeds from the BBQ will go directly to our project.
Please join us Saturday July 29th from 2 - 8pm in Vincent Massey Park. There will be burgers, chips, refreshments as well as vegetarian options. The cost of the food is by donation, coming by to get to know our organization is free! We will also have games and activities for kids, as well as a raffle draw for a chance to win prizes.
Vincent Massey Park is located at Heron Road and Riverside Drive, parking is accessible via Heron Road and nearby bus routes include the 88 and the 111. While there are picnic tables you may also wish to bring chairs or a blanket as well as balls or frisbees - anything to help us make it an enjoyable afternoon.
We are looking forward to an afternoon of fun and food and hope to see you there. Please RSVP to email@example.com and let us know if you would like to come and inform us of any dietary restrictions.
