COVID-19 Update

VO is recruiting and deploying volunteers to respond to the volunteer needs specific to COVID-19 in Ottawa, Prescott-Russell, Lanark County and Renfrew County while ensuring proper screening and training protocals to safeguard the health of those volunteering and those they are assisting. Please see the intake portals for volunteers, for members, and for other agencies on our hompage. VO’s COVID 19 volunteer deployment program is supported by the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund and the Ottawa Community Foundation.

VO COVID Training: Effective Communications During Pandemic Response and Recovery

Nonprofits and charities are facing a significant challenge as they strive to maintain connections to their audiences during a time of fear, information overload and short attention spans. At the same time, nonprofits are trusted leaders in their communities and especially now, need to effectively communicate and connect with their internal and external audiences.

 Workshop elements:

  • Develop a communications plan: for COVID-19 information and work related to organizational mission
  • Ensure all communication materials are aligned with organization brand, mission, vision and values
  • Communications plan is part of the organization’s business continuity plan
  • Identify key audiences, internal and external
  • Determine frequency of communication with each audience
  • Be proactive: plan key messages
  • Determine communications channel(s) for each audience

  • Anyone on the front lines who deals with the public.

Instructor: Darcy Boucher

Darcy Boucher is founder and president of Bowda PR, a boutique PR agency that connects businesses with their audiences through all aspects of communication; from social media management to content creation, to branding and media relations. Darcy is a reservist with the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), and also works as a communications advisor with the RCN. There, she manages their national level online presence, and advises senior leadership on social media best practices. Fluent in English, French, and Spanish, Darcy’s passion is helping fledgling initiatives to thrive.
