VO COVID Training: Business Continuity Planning and Scenario Planning

Part A: Business Continuity Planning

Is your organization prepared to continue to deliver its core programs and services if normal operations are interrupted?  Having a business continuity plan will allow you to maintain or quickly resume operations during or after an event or hazard like COVID-19 that causes a service interruption. Is effective planning possible during changing and uncertain times? Compiling key information and resources in advance will ensure your organization has a framework to work through important decisions when an event occurs.

Learning objectives:

  • Key organizational elements to include in your plan

This session will provide a general overview of elements. Volunteer Ottawa to follow up with organizations to assist with individual planning.

Part B: Scenario Planning: Follow up session November 6, 2020 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Once your business continuity plan has been developed, it needs to be tested. The goal of scenario planning is not to develop the perfect scenario, but more to give the leadership team a mechanism to test their strategies, plans, and decisions under a range of potential future scenarios. In this session, you will work through a sample scenario related to COVID-19.

Instructor: Aasif Khakoo

Aasif is an influential executive with over 20 years of leadership experience across the healthcare continuum including primary care, long term care, mental health and addictions, acute care, and community support – and having engaged with Ontario’s healthcare system as a patient, caregiver and advocate. He has content expertise, cultural awareness, and the stakeholder knowledge to design and help deliver value while working closely with the all levels of the organization.  Aasif’s first interaction in leading business continuity planning was during the Y2K period, where Aasif was responsible for Y2K organizational contingency planning at Toronto East General Hospital.  Since then, his executive level roles have required various business continuity plans at strategic and operational levels. He is currently the Principle Consultant and Director for IMPACT Healthcare Consulting Inc. Aasif is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Healthcare Executive (CHE) and he holds a Masters in Health Administration.
