Organization: PAL Ottawa
Join the Board of Directors of PAL Ottawa, a dedicated group of community leaders working together to offer vulnerable senior artists and arts workers in the Capital affordable housing and personal support in a creative, caring community so they can continue to live, create and inspire.

PAL Ottawa is a non-profit charity, the eighth chapter of PAL Canada, a network leading the way in creating affordable housing for arts workers plus a volunteer peer assistance program called Supporting Cast. PAL Ottawa’s goal is to create a centre for senior artists and arts workers age 55+ from all disciplines. This centre will provide housing and amenities such as studio and performance space, bringing artists together to continue their journey as creators, performers, teachers and mentors.
The role of board members is to ensure good management and governance of the organization. Members of the Board bear a fiduciary duty to PAL, its mission and its supporters. Members serve for a renewable 2-year term and, as a working board, are active volunteers taking on responsibilities. In pursuing their duties of care, diligence and loyalty, members are expected to come prepared for meetings, ask questions, actively participant in events and fundraising, and serve on one committee.

Time commitment includes approx. 8 hours per month for monthly board meetings, committee meetings and other activities depending on the area of activity.

Desired Competencies

If PAL Ottawa’s mission inspires you and you are interested in putting your experience and energy to work for a good cause, the Nominating Committee is looking for skills and knowledge in:

Social services and affordable housing
Major Project Management
Fundraising – annual and capital campaigns
Financial management
Public relations and Advocacy
Non-profit organization administration

Previous board experience is preferred but not essential.

Organization: PAL Ottawa
Volunteer member of the Board of Directors with related responsibilities. Works on financial management of PAL Ottawa, its budget and expenditures; an Officer of the corporation and serves on the Business and Finance Committee; provides financial advice to the Board of Directors and committees, with special attention to the current work of the Housing Committee; preparation of annual budgets for approval by the Board; Manage relations with the bank (currently is Alterna Savings); Deal with ongoing financial affairs assisted by PAL’s part-time bookkeeper; Give regular reports to the Board on the organization’s finances and keep reports on file; Act as signing officer, with another officer for cheques and other documents; Oversee the annual audit from an outside accounting firm; Make sure all necessary annual financial reports are filed to CRA and Corporations Canada and that any employee deductions are remitted.
