Matthew House Ottawa is a faith-based, volunteer-driven, charitable organization that helps Ottawa’s marginalised population to establish connected, safe, healthy, and dignified homes within our community. We do this by:
1) Refugee Services: Providing shelter, food and refugee settlement assistance, including volunteer opportunities, in a family atmosphere to refugee claimants so that they may begin their journey to independence as members in Canadian society.
2) Furniture Bank: Distributing quality used furniture and household goods to Ottawa’s marginalised population.
Refugee Services provides a safe home environment for up to 9 refugee claimants. We provide a refuge with a home environment and caring support workers. It is a place were people know they are welcome.
Furniture Bank provides quality donated furniture and household items to clients referred by social agencies and support groups throughout the city. MHO: FB currently helps more than 60 families a month furnish their own homes.
Matthew House Furniture Bank helps those in need in Ottawa (including families, refugees, single parents, the disabled) have a better life by helping them make their housing a true home. We are in urgent need of caring persons to assist clients in choosing housewares and furniture, which will be delivered by other volunteers. Volunteers can work one or more four-hour daytime shifts a week, on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

Matthew House Furniture Bank is urgently in need of volunteer driver's assistants during daytime hours on week days. The assistants help our truck driver pick up and deliver furniture and housewares to the homes of persons in need in the Ottawa area. Volunteers must be capable of some heavy lifting.
