A Miracle Field provides special-needs children, young adults and adults the opportunity to play the game of baseball (and other sports) on a purpose-built surface. The goal of the organization, The Miracle League of Ottawa, is to facilitate these opportunities to play baseball on a safe and more enjoyable custom-designed field with a cushioned rubberized surface to help prevent injuries.

Volunteer Opportunities

A base buddy is responsible for promoting for protecting the Miracle League player at all times.
Base buddies assist the player by holding their hand, pushing their wheelchair or leading them in a power chair
When hard hitters are hitting the ball, "buddies" are to stand in front of the player for protection to catch or redirect the ball on the field. (the balls used to play Miracle League Baseball are soft "mush" balls and bigger than a standard baseball)
Buddies always allow the player as much freedom to play his/her own game as possible.
Buddies are responsible for assisting the player to get the ball and directing them to where they need to throw it.
Assists players according to their needs.
Buddies will assist the player to make a hit, circle the bases and score a run each inning.
Buddies ensure the players have fun!
Buddies have a good spirit, enthusiasm, love, attitude and concern in motivating players and their families; gives players lots of encouragement by clapping and cheering.
Buddies become a friend to the player and gets to know the player and their family where possible.
Buddies are expected to focus on the players at all times.
Buddies are expected to arrive at the field 10 minutes prior to game time.
Buddies are expected to be properly dressed to be active and wear the provided vest/shirt.
Buddies demonstrate high morals and integrity on and off the field.
We have a particular need for volunteers to fill our afternoon time slots from 1150am to 2pm.
