A Miracle Field provides special-needs children, young adults and adults the opportunity to play the game of baseball (and other sports) on a purpose-built surface. The goal of the organization, The Miracle League of Ottawa, is to facilitate these opportunities to play baseball on a safe and more enjoyable custom-designed field with a cushioned rubberized surface to help prevent injuries.

Volunteer Opportunities

KEY ACTIVITIES:
• Attends all Board meetings.
• Organize and assist in posting on website and social media channels.
• Plan publicity strategies and campaigns
• Write and produce presentations and press releases, articles, leaflets, reports, publicity brochures, information for websites and promotional videos.
• Deal with inquiries from the public, the press, and related organizations
• Organize promotional events such as press conferences and presentations
• Speak publicly at interviews, press conferences and presentations
• Coordinate advertising and marketing projects with sponsorship and fundraising members.
• Secure and maintain media contacts (local and national)
• Obtain copies of print and TV coverage
• Communicate with local media to publicize league events.
• Develop an annual budget to support the program
• Ensure the program operates within its budget
• Provide direction, input, and feedback to the Fundraising, Media, and Website managers
• Participate on any committees, as necessary
• Participate in league activities such as registration, publicity, coaching, special projects and fundraisers.
• Communicate regularly with other committee members
• Assist in increasing the number of players in the program.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm, love and concern for each player and family
• Demonstrate high morals and integrity on and off the field

SKILLS REQUIRED:
⎫ English essential (bilingualism considered an asset)
⎫ Excellent oral and written communication skills
⎫ Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
⎫ Ability to plan, organize, and/or monitor one’s own tasks or the tasks of others
⎫ Ability to identify activities and/or assign resources
⎫ Ability to work collaboratively with others
⎫ Ability to motivate and empower others
⎫ Ability to deal with conflict effectively
⎫ Have a knowledge of planning, budgeting and accountability processes
⎫ Have a working knowledge in Project Management

A buddy is responsible for protecting the Miracle League player at all times.
Buddies assist the player by holding their hand, pushing their wheelchair or leading them in a power chair
When hard hitters are hitting the ball, "buddies" are to stand in front of the player for protection to catch or redirect the ball on the field. (the balls used to play Miracle League Baseball are soft "mush" balls and bigger than a standard baseball)
Buddies always allow the player as much freedom to play his/her own game as possible.
Buddies are responsible for assisting the player to get the ball and directing them to where they need to throw it.
Assists players according to their needs.
Buddies will assist the player to make a hit, circle the bases and score a run each inning.
Buddies ensure the players have fun!
Buddies have a good spirit, enthusiasm, love, attitude and concern in motivating players and their families; gives players lots of encouragement by clapping and cheering.
Buddies become a friend to the player and gets to know the player and their family where possible.
Buddies are expected to focus on the players at all times.
Buddies are expected to arrive at the field 10 minutes prior to game time.
Buddies are expected to be properly dressed to be active and wear the provided vest/shirt.
Buddies demonstrate high morals and integrity on and off the field.
Transportation options are available for those who do not have a vehicle.
