Founded and incorporated in 1994, the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO) is a not-for-profit genealogical organization.
Our mandate is to encourage and facilitate family history research, and its dissemination, by people with ancestry in the British Isles (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands). This year, we have almost 600 members, approximately 30% of whom live outside the National Capital Region.
The Editor prepares, edits and publishes to members of BIFHSGO and chosen exchange organizations a quarterly journal known as Anglo-Celtic Roots (ACR) and reports to the Board through the Communications Director. The journal shall include family history or research information articles written by BIFHSGO members, information on Society activities and other articles of genealogical interest. It is published in accordance with the format and budget approved by the Board
The Administrator is responsible for efficiently performing various daily, weekly and monthly administrative functions of the Society, including preparing for board meetings, managing internal affairs, handling society mailing, and working with various other BIFHSGO volunteers and members
The Volunteer Coordinator recruits, trains and manages the activities of British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO) volunteers.They would recruit volunteers for BIFHSGO projects and activities, prepare orientation material and programs and provides orientation for new volunteers, and organize and participate in volunteer recognition efforts
