Victoria's Quilts Canada (VQC) provides handmade quilts to people living with cancer in Canada. By providing these quilts, we hope to bring physical comfort to those dealing with cancer as well as the spiritual comfort in knowing they are not alone in their struggle.

In addition to Ottawa, VQC now comprises over 1,300 volunteers in 25 communities across Canada. We have no paid staff. Our quilts are made by individual quilters who work independently or in groups. Since 1999, we have made and distributed over 59,000 quilts across Canada and now make and distribute approximately 600 quilts per month.

Our quilts are made from fabric donations and associated supplies and postage costs are supported through corporate and individual financial donations to Victoria's Quilts Canada. It is only through the generosity and commitment of our volunteers and donors that we can continue to achieve our mission.

Volunteer Opportunities

Board Secretary - Victoria's Quilts Canada

As a member of the VQC Board and reporting to the Chair of the Board of Directors, works closely with the Directors and President providing secretarial functions for the Corporation and the Board of Directors. This is a 2 year term position which can be renewed.

Outline of Responsibilities:
• Acts as Clerk of the Board of Directors.
• Prepare meeting Agendas and distribute Minutes as appropriate.
• Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors and the Annual General Meeting.
• Record the proceedings of the meetings.
• Ensure originals of all signed copies of the proceedings are kept in the official Minutes Books.
• Distribute all required documentation to the Board of Directors and VQC members.
• Be the official custodian of the Seal of the Corporation and of all books, papers, records, correspondence, contracts and other documents belonging to the Corporation.

Skills, experience, qualifications required:
• Experience in minute-taking.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Have a reliable computer and email service.
• Must be willing to become a member of the VQC Board of Directors.

Personal traits and qualities needed/desired:
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Sound judgment.
• Accurate and detail-oriented.
• Conscientious and committed.
• Ability to work independently within a team environment.

Level of Effort:
• Dependant on number of meetings, up to 10 - 15 hours monthly.
