The Friendship Circle of Ottawa is a program run by the Jewish Youth Library of Ottawa and seeks to provide inclusive opportunities for volunteers and children with special needs. The Friends at Home program connects young
volunteers to a child that has special needs, offering weekly visits and companionship in the child's home.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are paired with a child who has special needs and visit their home weekly to engage in fun activities of their preference.
This is an ideal volunteer opportunity for high school and university students who are looking to volunteer once a week for an hour. We request that our volunteers can commit to at least six months of friendship in order for the relationship with their matched child to really grow. Ongoing volunteerism is ideal.

Volunteers do not need to have extensive training in the field of special needs, just an interest in children and an accepting attitude.

For the safety of our participants it is also asked that the volunteer who are over 18 have a police records check/vulnerable sector check (a note can be provided to have this done for a reduced cost).

Please contact coordinator Elinore Rabin (elinore.friendshipcircle@gmail.com) to schedule a meeting! There is no deadline as this program is ongoing.
