The mission of Communityworks Non-Profit Housing Corporation is to provide high quality, affordable, non-profit housing to residents of Ottawa, with a particular focus in the east Ottawa area. The broad objectives of the Corporation complement and strongly support those of the Ministry of Housing. They are as follows:

! Increase the supply of affordable housing in Ottawa.
! Increase access to adequate and affordable housing suitable to the needs of the community.
! Develop and maintain fully integrated communities with households from a mix of socio-economic backgrounds, including housing for the physically challenged.
! Encourage and facilitate resident empowerment through participation in management and decision-making processes.
! Promote energy-efficiency, recycling and other forms of environmental stewardship.
! Develop and manage projects efficiently and cost-effectively, to ensure responsible use of public funds.

Organization: Communityworks NPHC
Communityworks Non-Profit Housing Corporation (NPHC) is a community-based non-profit housing corporation that has been incorporated since 1986 which owns and manages both rent-geared-to-income and market rent housing for individuals, couples, families with children and senior citizens in its 178 units located in four developments in Ottawa.

We have a full complement of staff who manage the day to day business of the Corporation and work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the highest quality of housing and a great sense of Community.

The Board of Directors provides strategic leadership to the organization by committing to excellence in governance and supporting organizational health for optimum achievement of its goals and mandate. The five member volunteer board is comprised of a team of leaders with combined experiences in governance, accounting, HR, business management, and housing and homelessness advocacy. All members have a personal passion for volunteering and for making a difference in the lives of individuals, families with children and senior citizens that reside in our communities.

We are proud to say that Communityworks NPHC won an award for design at its Paterson Walk location at 8 Bullman Street

We are currently looking for 2 new directors with innovative and environmentally friendly ideas for social housing improvements and new projects to join our successful and experienced team. Dynamic individuals with a strong social conscience and a passion to provide affordable and safe accommodations are welcome.

Previous experience in non-profit would be desirable but not required.


Responsibilities

The Board of Directors serves as the governing body for the Corporation and works closely with the Administrator to ensure the successful providing of safe affordable housing for our residents.
Directors meet every two months for two hours and may have additional meetings as required. The meetings are conducted in-person at our main office located at 30 Provender Avenue, Ottawa. Board terms are a minimum of two years with an option to renew.

How to Apply

Board appointments start in October and applicants are encouraged to apply early. Interested candidates are invited to submit a cover letter and recent resume to the attention of the Board Nominating Committee, care of communityworks@bellnet.ca no later than January 31, 2020. Applicants must be 18 years of age or over and must reside in the City of Ottawa. All applications will be reviewed by a committee of the Board.
