English Language Tutoring for the Ottawa Community (ELTOC) is a non-profit charity organization that provides individualized and accessible home-based English as a Second Language (ESL) training tutoring to adult newcomers who cannot attend regular classes.

ELTOC achieves its mission by matching newcomers to ELTOC-trained volunteers in the community who go to the students' homes and provide one-on-one English language tutoring. Emphasis is given to practical English skills that allow newcomers to integrate into Canadian life.

Volunteer Opportunities

English Language Tutoring for the Ottawa Community (ELTOC) is looking to recruit a board member with an accounting designation and 2 to 3 years accounting experience to join its volunteer Board of Directors. Initially, this member would provide back-up support to the treasurer with a view to assuming the treasurer role in the future. This position will help oversee that financial matters of ELTOC are in line with good accounting principles and in accordance with governance and legal requirements. The treasurer or back-up reports on the financial position of the organization at monthly board meetings, usually held the third Thursday. All financial reports are prepared by the bookkeeper and forwarded to the treasurer.
Qualified candidates, who share our vision to build a strong, inclusive, multicultural community, are invited to submit a cover letter and resume to hr@eltoc.ca.
Please feel free to call Julie Somers, Board Chair, at 613-899-7030 with any questions.
