The Glebe Centre is a 254 bed, not-for-profit long term care home dedicated to providing resident care and community outreach services to clients in the Ottawa community. The Glebe Centre provides specialized care to residents, as well as providing activities and programming in an integrated community setting. The Glebe Centre is dedicated to developing and delivering services that support the highest quality of life for residents and clients. Abbotsford House@The Glebe Centre is a Community and Leisure Resource Centre for adults 55 plus. Abbotsford is committed to providing a comprehensive range of programs and services to seniors living in the community. These programs are designed to help people remain healthy and happy in their own homes.

A committee will provide input to and participate in raising funds to support the work of the Glebe Centre. The primary role will be to provide input into the development of annual events. Engage in all aspects of events including marketing, persona solicitation, help plan events and identify new prospects and potential funders.

A volunteer who can help with appeal letters, website content, social media content. Volunteer should have super copy editing skills, be able to write in different styles, familiar with face book/twitter and be able to create content for both platforms. Volunteer should be able to produce samples of writing done in the past.

Our long term care home has a designated Chinese unit and we are in need of volunteers who speak Cantonese and or Mandarin to support various programs at the Glebe Centre. Exercise program, tea and chats, music and memory programs all require your support.

Working with two co-leaders, this small team of volunteers prepares donated antique,vintage and contemporary fashion jewelry for ongoing sales at The Glebe Centre. Items are sold at our annual Bazaar. The team is responsible for sorting, cleaning, researching, repairing, pricing, displaying, and selling the jewelry. Much of the work can be done independently. An interest in fashion jewelry and a sense of design is an asset.. This is a fun role for anyone who likes antiques.

Snoezelen is a multisensory room which is a safe and non-threatening environment used to gently stimulate primary senses. Residents in long term care are afforded the opportunity to improve communication and build trust. Volunteers receive training and are assigned several residents who will benefit from this therapeutic experience. Documentation after each session is important as well as an ability to understand non verbal cues.

The Telephone Assurance Program (TAP) requires volunteers to call clients (weekdays only) on a regular basis to check on the client's well being and provide a response if the call is not answered within a reasonable time frame. During these calls the volunteer will try to monitor the well-being of the client. Application, interview and Police Check required.

Every Wednesday evening we provide an activity for our seniors entitled Travelogue. We require volunteers to assist with the room set up, escort residents to and from the room, join the residents in the activity and help to do clean up after the activity. Volunteers need to be available from 6 - 8 pm on Wednesdays. Students welcome.

Music & Memory is a program that connects seniors to the music they love by using individual playlists. These playlists are created with input from residents, families, friends and staff. Once the playlists are created they are downloaded onto IPod Shuffles so residents can connect with the music they love. Music and Memory can vastly improve quality of life regardless of cognitive or physical status and it is especially powerful for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's. We need volunteers to both download the playlists and support residents in the program.

Abbotsford House Community Support requires drivers to take seniors to medical appointments. Three to four hours per week is all that is needed to assist with this worthwhile program. Drivers will be reembursed mileage. A clean drivers abstract is required as well as a vehicle in good working order.

We require a volunteer to support our Music Therapist in our Java Music program. The volunteer would engage our seniors in group discussions/reminiscing. The volunteer does not need be able to play an instrument but should be able to sing along and have an interest in music. Training is provided and there is a binder to use for support. Strategic questions are provided to allow residents to reminisce.

The Men's Support Group supports seniors living in long term care who remain cognitive and would like to participate in a discussion group on various topics of interest. The volunteer would set up the room for the program, research topics of interest and encourage social engagement. Residents would need to be escorted to and from the program.

Answer phone calls, forward calls, answer questions regarding the centre. Welcome on site visitors, monitor access, perform clerical duties. Make phone calls to clients to remind them of appointments. This position is for Fridays.
