Volunteer Opportunities

As the volunteer coordinator you will be coordinating with 2 other coordinators who are responding to requests to volunteer with us, setting up and conducting interviews, managing the student community hour program, checking references of prospective volunteers, updating the Volunteer Ottawa site for volunteer positions, We operate every Saturday afternoon and every second Friday in which interviews are scheduled on site.

Calling all aspiring projectionists and movie buffs of all ages. Family Cinema is looking for volunteers to assist our projectionist. Who we are looking for?

Currently, we are looking for volunteers for different positions, including snack bar cashiers, popcorn makers, ushers, birthday party coordinators, etc. There are many ways to help. You can greet and seat the audience, help with the set-up and take-down, turn a school hall way and auditorium into a fully fledged cinema with a snack bar and box offices. You could also get involve in stage activities, take care of the donation table, and so much more.

If you do not have any relevant experiences, no problem at all! We will provide training. As long as you are punctual, reliable, and friendly, you are the one we are looking for!

The Cinema is open from mid-September until the beginning of May, excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter weekends. Shows are on every Saturday at 2:00 pm, plus selected Friday evenings at 7:00 pm (usually at least twice per month).

We are looking for a Manager for the Snack Bar, which offers popcorn, hot dogs, coffee, hot chocolate, chocolate bars, etc. Training will be provided to suitable candidates. Below are the major responsibilities and qualifications for this position. Major Responsibilities
• Schedule staff for each show confirming that all positions have enough trained volunteers in the role to provide efficient customer service
• Arrange that all new volunteers in Snack bar are adequately trained for each position in the Snack bar
• Ensure that all health and safety requirements are enforced
• Maintain required levels of inventory for each item offered at snack bar
• Respond to customer queries in a timely manner
• Effectively communicate with OFC manager about any issues or concerns in regard to the Snack bar and help plan corrective action
 
Qualifications
• Customer service experience (experience with supervising others is a plus)
• Strong people skills - ability to motivate, lead, train, and be part of a team
• Organized, self-directed, with strong communication skills
• Sense of humour
