The Carlington Community Chaplaincy is a ministry of presence fostering a safe, supportive and empowering environment for everyone in our diverse community. We honour and value all people.

We provide a range of hospitality and arts-based programs for residents in Carlington, including a daily drop-in (Monday - Friday, 10 am - 12 pm), a studio space for artists, and special-interest classes and groups.

Volunteer Opportunities

We're looking for a volunteer to facilitate the Jane Austen Sewing Circle: a pilot programme set to begin late this September and continue into December, after which the theme will undergo review.

What you bring to the table: Armed with a love of Jane Austen and a thorough knowledge of sewing and embroidery/knitting, you create projects for participants based on their abilities. This program seeks to foster a sense of community and friendship, while working towards concrete goals.

The successful candidate will be a compassionate, empathic individual who works well independently to plan each class (1.5 hours, once a week) to suit people of all skill levels. They are self motivated and outgoing, able to facilitate an environment that nurtures growth.

Alternating weeks coordinating with Food Workshop schedule. Volunteer will be provided with recipes and information for upcoming food workshops. The information must be formatted into an established pamphlet template and prepared for distribution. Work can be completed off site. Volunteer must be comfortable working in Google Docs and ideally has experience with marketing, communications, and/or designing templates/posters. Cooking background a plus, as we often offer adaptations to recipes so that participants can use ingredients that they have on-hand. A strong sense of attention to detail in order to review recipes and information is required.

Volunteer will be provided with information for upcoming fundraiser-- a silent auction. The volunteer will manage an online profile through which items are auctioned off. Work can be completed off site. Volunteer must be comfortable working on the internet, and ideally has experience with marketing, communications, and/or designing templates/posters.A strong sense of attention to detail in order to review sales and inventory is required.

The successful applicant must be comfortable working with a diverse demographic, and sensitive to the challenges and needs of those living in community housing. They will be responsible for the facilitation of Tuesday evening programs and will rotate through Coffeehouse + Open Mic, Game Night, Potluck, and Special Event. The ideal candidate will take initiative and work towards building relationships of trust with community members, while engaging them in the activity in question.

We're looking for two outgoing, positive individuals to lead our biweekly drum circles, beginning mid- September. As a nonprofit located in the Caldwell/Carlington area, we encourage our community members to express themselves positively through art and music. In leading the drum circle, you will be encouraging the same. The ideal candidate will be respectful, compassionate, and outgoing, while being mindful of the different needs of participants.
