The mandate of the Kiwanis Music Festival – NCR is to encourage and promote the enjoyment and study of music in our community’s young people through the production of an annual competitive music festival. The Festival runs a full three weeks every April, featuring over 3,000 entries (over 10,000 participants) and managed by a small part-time staff and over 400 volunteers. The participants compete for over $50,000 in scholarships and trophies. It takes place at various churches and schools around Ottawa. Our Festival concludes with the Highlights Concert, a full-length concert held at Algonquin Commons Theatre featuring some of the best and most entertaining of the young participants. We are a registered charity supported by donations, sponsorships, and participant registration fees and governed by a voluntary Board of Directors.

Les possibilités de bénévolat

Do you have a couple of hours on Monday afternoons to help raise funds for the Festival?

We need to build a team of four volunteers to each take on one Monday a month from 4 - 6 pm to represent the Festival at the Capital Gaming and Entertainment Centre (located on Lola Ave., formerly Overbrook Bingo Palace).
Funds raised help pay for our world-class Adjudicators each year.
All volunteers for this initial position will need to read the Accessible Service Training document that will be provided. This is the first level of reintegration of volunteers into the Hall. Within one or two months (when allowed by pandemic restrictions) the greeters will move into the Hall and help in small ways to keep the space tidy and answer any questions about our charity. There will be no need to deal with money or sales of tickets etc. as the Hall has mostly switched to electronic gaming machines. More in-depth training will be mandatory at this time.
You must be of legal age to enter a gaming establishment and able to stand for the two-hour shift. Please email kim@okmf.ca if you are able to help us out and for more details. We look forward to hearing from you!
