The workshop coordinator is responsible for organizing workshops at the Ottawa Tool Library around subjects like home renovations, woodworking, and any other tool-use project. Examples of past workshops include: Intro to Power Tools, Drywall Repair and Painting, Learn How to Use Your Sewing Machine, Sustainable Floral Design, and more. Some of our workshops take place regularly (i.e., monthly, bi-annually, etc.), while others are organized based on demand.
As the coordinator, you would identify workshop subjects that are of interest to our community, recruit eligible instructors and assist the instructors in any logistical organization for the workshop. Logistics include but are not limited to finding a suitable date and time to offer the workshop, listing the event on Facebook and Eventbrite, and being on hand for the workshop and any prep time that the instructor would need to organize materials.
We’re looking for someone with volunteer coordination experience, a love for sharing skills, a marketing hat, and a desire to contribute to making this a better world.
You would also be part of our Core Team (a fantastic group of people with a vast array of skills) and attend monthly Core Team meetings.
This position requires emailing and phone calls, such as when recruiting volunteers, answering questions from the public and attendees, and organizing with the ED and Core Team members.
Ideally, you would be able to organize two workshops per month. We already have an active community, with a few regular workshop contributors and a great support network for this role. You'll learn tons and be part of a great community of folks helping others!
The time commitment for this position is approximately 20 - 25 hours per month. Please provide a cover letter with your application outlining your skills, what you bring to this role, and why you want to be part of the best volunteer team around. ;)
