A Canada-wide, volunteer based literacy organization. We teach people to read and write and nurture a positive environment that promotes lifelong learning. In the Ottawa area we have literacy programs for children, youth and adults in Ottawa East, West, and down-town core. These locations include Libraries, Public Schools, and Community-based Shelters.

WHAT DO OUR VOLUNTEERS DO?

Frontier College's Homework Club Program offers homework and reading support for children and youth across Canada. As a volunteer with the Homework Club Program at St-Laurent Library, you will help children and youth grades 1 to 6 to develop their reading and writing skills in English and/or French. Based on your own competencies, you may also help them with other subjects, including mathematics and science.

Volunteering with the Homework Club Program is an excellent way to gain experience in early childhood education or literacy tutoring! It is also an ideal environment in which to contribute meaningfully to your community. We require no prior teaching experience and provide you with all of the training and materials you need. Just bring your communication skills, patience, enthusiasm and love of learning!


WHEN AND WHERE DO OUR ACTIVITIES TAKE PLACE?

The Homework Club program at St-Laurent Public Library runs from September 2019 to June 2020. The program will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. Volunteers are encouraged to participate weekly, but scheduling is flexible and can accommodate your availability. Note also that our other Homework Club across the city are always looking for volunteers!

QUE FONT NOS BÉNÉVOLES?

Les Clubs de devoirs de Collège Frontière offrent un soutien scolaire aux enfants et aux jeunes partout au Canada. À titre de tuteur bénévole au Club de devoirs à la succursale Carlingwood de la bibliothèque publique, vous aiderez les enfants et les jeunes de la 1ere à la 6ème année à développer leurs compétences en écriture et en lecture. Selon vos compétences, vous pourrez également les aider avec d'autres sujets tels les mathématiques et les sciences.

Faire du bénévolat au Club de devoirs est une excellente manière d'acquérir de l'expérience en éducation à l'enfance et en tutorat. C'est également un environnement idéal pour contribuer de manière significative à votre communauté. Nous n'exigeons aucune expérience préalable ; nous vous fournirons la formation et les matériaux dont vous aurez besoin. Vous n'avez qu'à apporter vos compétences en communication, votre patience, votre enthousiasme et votre amour de l’apprentissage !


OÙ ET QUAND NOS ACTIVITÉS ONT-ELLES LIEU ?

Le Club de devoirs à la succursale Carlingwood se déroulera de novembre 2019 à juin 2020. Le programme aura lieu les mercredis de 18h à 19h. Les bénévoles sont encouragés à la participation hebdomadaire, mais les horaires sont flexibles et peuvent accommoder vos disponibilités. Veuillez aussi noter que nos autres Clubs de devoirs recherchent toujours des bénévoles !
