Description

A base buddy is responsible for promoting for protecting the Miracle League player at all times.
Base buddies assist the player by holding their hand, pushing their wheelchair or leading them in a power chair
When hard hitters are hitting the ball, "buddies" are to stand in front of the player for protection to catch or redirect the ball on the field. (the balls used to play Miracle League Baseball are soft "mush" balls and bigger than a standard baseball)
Buddies always allow the player as much freedom to play his/her own game as possible.
Buddies are responsible for assisting the player to get the ball and directing them to where they need to throw it.
Assists players according to their needs.
Buddies will assist the player to make a hit, circle the bases and score a run each inning.
Buddies ensure the players have fun!
Buddies have a good spirit, enthusiasm, love, attitude and concern in motivating players and their families; gives players lots of encouragement by clapping and cheering.
Buddies become a friend to the player and gets to know the player and their family where possible.
Buddies are expected to focus on the players at all times.
Buddies are expected to arrive at the field 30 minutes prior to game time.
Buddies are expected to be properly dressed to be active and wear the provided vest/shirt.
Buddies demonstrate high morals and integrity on and off the field.

How will this volunteer opportunity benefit you?
By participating as a buddy with the Miracle League, volunteers will have the opportunity to work with children, youth and adults with a variety of disabilities. A training session will be offered to volunteers prior to the start of the season and will provide an opportunity to learn about disability and support strategies as they apply to sport.
