Pathways to Education is an innovative community-based program designed to support high school students from low-income neighbourhoods to succeed in high school and move on to post-secondary education. We need knowledgeable and dedicated volunteers to assist high school students (grades 11 and 12) to grasp key scientific concepts and apply this knowledge to their assignments (i.e. lab reports, research papers, and essays). A grade 11 Physics tutor assists students to research and understand kinematics, forces, energy and society, waves and sounds, electricity, and magnetism. A grade 12 Physics tutor helps students to explore and examine dynamics (i.e. uniform circular motion, motion in a plane), energy and momentum, gravitational, electric, and magnetic fields, wave nature of light, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, quantum mechanics, and special relativity. Our tutoring sessions take place from 4:30 to 8:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at three locations in the West end of Ottawa. We host tutoring at our central Pathways site (1365 Richmond Road), at the Foster Farm Community Center (1065 Ramsey Crescent, in the gym) and at Michele Height Community Centre (2955 Michele Drive).
