We are looking for Game On! Mentors between the ages of 18-30 available to facilitate group sessions throughout the city of Ottawa. Developed for male adolescents between the ages of 12-14, Game On! uses a mentor approach to provide boys and young men with information and support to make informed choices about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. Physical activity, healthy eating, self-esteem, and communication skills are the core themes. This program is run in schools during school hours or after school. All volunteers must complete an application form, in person interview and training before beginning. A full day of training is also required. How will this volunteer opportunity benefit you?
Why Be a Mentor? For just a few hours a couple of times a month, you can help a child succeed. Big Brothers Big Sisters is different from other mentoring organizations in that we seek volunteers who are committed and consistent, willing to serve at least a 2 school semesters. Studies show our mentoring services help kids stay in school, avoid risky behaviour, and experience first-hand the importance of helping others in their community. BBBSO provides full program, mentoring and child safety training to our volunteers. Volunteers will gain experience in: Leadership Group facilitation Team Building Communication skills Children and family services We are grateful for your willingness to be involved and while it is certainly not a requirement, we welcome you to also become a donor - as you volunteer or wait to be matched.

By giving your time to a child who needs it, you will allow BBBSO to serve more children and to make more of a difference in the Ottawa community.
