Description

Volunteer Role: To connect and demonstrate Bruyère Helpline equipment in clients' homes upon installation as well as during service visits. Bruyère Helpline is a non-profit outreach service of Bruyère Continuing Care that allows a senior or disabled person living independently in the community to call for help by simply pressing a button on a small wireless pendant or bracelet. Position Description: The volunteer visits clients in their homes to connect, maintain, or disconnect Bruy?re Helpline equipment. An installation involves explaining how to use the equipment, determining the optimal location for it, connecting and testing it, and explaining the forms that the client is asked to sign. The volunteer may also visit clients to resolve difficulties they encounter in using the service, or to disconnect and recover Bruyère Helpline equipment when the service is no longer required. Appointments with clients are made by Bruyère Helpline staff. Although most visits are scheduled on weekdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., urgent troubleshooting visits are occasionally required in evenings or on weekends. The volunteer uses his/her own personal vehicle to drive to clients' homes. Expenses for use of the vehicle are reimbursed on a per-kilometre basis. Additional Information: This volunteer role would appeal to a mature individual who has an appreciation for the challenges faced by seniors and disabled persons living independently. The small team of volunteers is committed to serving clients with respect and compassion, in keeping with the core values of Bruy?re Continuing Care. Training will be provided. Bilingualism would be an asset, as would basic presentation skills and an interest in the technical aspects of the work.
