ABOUT THE PROJECT
The ByWard Market is one of the most well known destinations in Ottawa. Because of its economic and cultural contributions, the City of Ottawa plans to ensure that the Market remains a popular and successful destination in the future. The ByWard Market Public Realm Plan will establish a vision for improvements to the network of public spaces in the ByWard Market, including streets, sidewalks, parks, squares and plazas.

We’re looking for friendly volunteers to help collect “people data” to better understand how residents and visitors get around and spend time in the ByWard Market. Half of the shift will involve making observational notes about activities in the market while the other half requires volunteers to ask passersby to fill out a short survey. Overall, the study will reveal what people like and dislike about the area, how they use it, and why.
Each volunteer shift is four hours, plus a 30-minute training prior to the beginning of the shift. Light refreshments provided.
This is the first of three public life studies. We'll be looking for more volunteers for the second and third rounds the study, which will take place in January and July 2019, respectively.
We are currently recruiting volunteers to help us implement the first round of public life studies, which will take place on September 20 & 22, 2018. No previous experience is necessary.
