Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity that enables you to give back to your community, get out of the house, and have flexible hours? This may be the perfect opportunity for you!

Upstream is seeking volunteer drivers to assist/accompany clients in accessing medical appointments or other scheduled activities in the community. Transportation may often be a challenge for clients battling with mental illness. As many go without services due to issues relating to transportation, this often proves to be a significant barrier to their recovery.

Eligible candidates must possess a valid driver licence, be 25 years of age or over, have a clean driving record, own their own vehicle and have an insurance policy with a minimum of $1 million coverage. Experience working in the mental health field would be desired.

Prior to commencing as a volunteer driver you will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Record Check..

Volunteer drivers are well-trained and supported in their role, and are important ambassadors for Upstream Ottawa. We offer flexible day-time driving opportunities based on your schedule.

How will this volunteer opportunity benefit you?
Drivers will be reimbursed on all mileages for approved rides and related expenses.

Upstream Ottawa will provide the training necessary to accomplish your tasks. In addition a letter of recommendation can be provided upon request, and serve as a reference if appropriate.

How will the organization benefit?
Upstream Ottawa will directly benefit from the reduced time clinical staff devote to transportation, which may then be reallocated to clinical functions.
