Description

Snoezelen is a multisensory room which is a safe and non-threatening environment used to gently stimulate primary senses. Residents in long term care are afforded the opportunity to improve communication and build trust. Volunteers receive training and are assigned several residents who will benefit from this therapeutic experience. Documentation after each session is important as well as an ability to understand non verbal cues.

Snoezelen has proven to reduce anxiety that is the result of dementia. Residents who participate in Snoezelen are calmer and more engaged in what is going on around them.
