Summary
Working in collaboration with the Walk for Dementia Committee, the Marketing and Communications Support will promote and publicize the Walk for Dementia in the Community. This position reports to The Dementia Society Communications Officer, and will take an active role on the Volunteer Planning Committee.

Responsibilities and Duties
• Attend Volunteer Planning Committee meetings - approximately 4 meetings will occur between March and May. Date/Time TBD.
• Assist the Committee with developing Walk for Dementia key messages
• Promote the Walk for Dementia in the community through local media via PSAs, Blog posts, etc.
• Promote the Walk for Dementia through personal social media network, and increase the reach of The Dementia Society’s social media presence.
• Working with the Volunteer Planning Committee, develop a plan to distribute brochures and posters

Requirements, Qualifications and Skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Media, public relations, and social media experience
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Organized and able to meet deadlines
• Able to complete work at home, and correspond regularly with the Communications Officer via email and phone
• Support Social Media activities on event day, as required

The Walk for Dementia is The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County’s signature fundraising event held each May and it has been growing and evolving for over 20 years. The event features a Special Memory Tribute, an Exhibitor Alley, a Family Zone and accessible 1km and 2km walking routes. The Walk for Dementia is a wonderful way to support and pay tribute to caregivers and families in Ottawa and Renfrew County impacted by dementia.
