Organization: Total Communication Environment
Commitment: Ongoing (more than a year)
Language Preference: English
Number of Positions Available: 1
Location: Ottawa - West
Deadline: Jul 28, 2019
DescriptionTotal Communication Environment (TCE) is a non-profit organization that provides homes and day supports for individuals with multiple disabilities and special communication needs. We currently serve over ninety (90) people in many different residential settings including group homes, apartments and townhouses, and outreach at a number of long term care homes in the Ottawa area. TCE has an annual multi-million budget, mainly funded by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. TCE also leads the industry by innovating new models of care and new housing strategies for this population.
Our board consists of working professionals from all backgrounds. We function as a governing board and are not usually involved in the daily operations of TCE unless there is strategic significance to do so. Regular Board meetings are held on the last Monday evening of each month, except in December, July, and August. Board terms are 3 years and many Board members serve on committees and attend 2 or 3 social events during the year. The treasurer is the head of the finance committee and the key function of this role is to ensure that TCE’s financial affairs are conducted appropriately as per professional standards. Leading the finance committee, working closely with TCE’s Director of Finance, the treasurer regularly presents the financial reports to the full board. The treasurer is also heavily involved in the budgeting process and moves the draft budget for approval by the full board. The treasurer will also lead and direct staff to conduct financial analysis, to facilitate the delivery of the board's strategic goals on innovative housing options.
