Stars in a Jar Volunteer
Organization: Stars in a Jar
Commitment: Short term less than 6 months
Language Preference: English
Number of Positions Available: 30
Location: Ottawa - East
Deadline: Aug 9, 2019
DescriptionStars in a Jar (starsinjar.org) connects childhood cancer survivors with children on active cancer treatment. We strive to provide these young warriors with the message of hope, strength and life after cancer.
This connection is made in the form of unique jars filled with origami stars. On each and every individual star, there is a powerful message authored by a childhood cancer survivor. Each is a message of hope made for a patient to unfold and discover. A jar is filled with a collection of these messages authored by one survivor, providing glimpses of their cancer journey. Although authored by one survivor, each jar is built by the community at large. We have eager volunteers handwrite and fold each message to make that connection even more powerful.
We need volunteers (YOU :) ) to come to our Jar Nights to help us make our origami stars. All you need to bring is yourself! Its okay if you don't know how to fold origami, we will teach you!
We provide the paper, pens, Jars, messages and snacks to make it a memorable event! Jar nights always have a start time, but it's always okay to show up late. You can expect that a full Jar night will run for around 2 hours. The more people we have the faster they go!
