Volunteer Liaison for Monthly Community Meal
Organization: Carlington Community Chaplaincy
Commitment: Long term (6 months to a year)
Availability: Weekends
Language Preference: English
Number of Positions Available: 1
Location: Ottawa - Central
Deadline: Nov 1, 2019
Description
Support a team of Chaplaincy volunteers to serve a nutritious and delicious brunch to members of the Carlington community by acting as a City of Ottawa keyholder from approximately 8:30-12 on the third Saturday of each month.
We offer our community meals in a community centre located at 1475 Caldwell; it is widely used by community groups, but owned by the City of Ottawa, which means that our key holder volunteer follows City of Ottawa guidelines for the opening/closing and use of the space. The successful applicant must be comfortable following and enforcing City of Ottawa safety and operational guidelines, including locking and alarming the space.
Each month, a different team of volunteers brings the food for the brunch, prepares it on-site, and cleans-up after the event. Because the teams vary each month, the Volunteer Liaison supports each group of volunteers with any questions they have about set-up, preparation, serving, and clean-up. Our key holder is also the liaison for the volunteer group and the community members who attend the brunches. Our community brunches draw about fifty residents living in the Carlington Community.
We are seeking an adult volunteer who:
- has experience leading and supporting a team (of volunteers/staff)
- has excellent communication skills
- is punctual and reliable
- is comfortable establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries to ensure the space is safe for all participants (large group)
Additional Requirements: Must be over the age of 18, CPR / First Aid / Police Record Check required; can be acquired free of charge after application.
The Carlington Community Chaplaincy (CCC) supports people in the Carlington community who live in social housing or are on low incomes. The successful applicant must be comfortable working with a diverse demographic, and sensitive to the challenges and needs of those living in social housing.
