Number of Positions Available: 10

Multisport Mentorship is designed for young athletes on the autism spectrum, who are exploring all that sport and recreation have to offer. The goal is to get children moving and having fun, through a variety of sport-specific games and activities. Children will explore movement and learn the basic skills involved in a variety of sports, including soccer, basketball, track, baseball, tennis, obstacle training and more. Each activity in this program can be easily modified to match the skill set and interests of your Ausome athlete, so all levels of physical abilities are welcome.

As a Jake’s House mentor, you’ll be paired with an ausome athlete to help them run through each activity at their own pace. Expect balancing games, relay races, and interactive group games, thrown in amongst the other skills in a fun and supportive setting.

How will the organization benefit?
Jake’s House supports individuals on the spectrum throughout their lifespans through four core initiatives: 1) Jake’s House Annual Holiday Parties, a 15-year tradition of bringing families together for a welcoming, fun and festive celebration; 2) Legends Mentoring Program, themed group mentoring workshops that provide youth with opportunities to learn skills, socialize and make friends; 3) Jake’s House Employment Mentoring, a program that supports the integration of young adults into the workforce; and 4) inclusive housing solutions, designed to address the growing housing gap in the autism community, giving more aging adults a place to call home.

These initiatives are only made possible through the generosity and commitment of volunteers. To be able to assist more families in the Ottawa region, Jake's House is currently seeking volunteers to engage as mentors in the Legends Mentoring Program and as advocates willing to spread awareness.
