School's Cool is a 6-week outcome-oriented school readiness program for children ages 3 to 5 years that uses a play-based curriculum to enhance children’s skills in 4 areas: language, reasoning, socialization and self-help.
Program volunteers provide program support so that facilitators can complete required assessments. Responsibilities include: greeting children warmly; assisting children with transitioning into the program; assisting children with the learning of routines and transitions; supporting facilitators by monitoring and interacting (playing) with children; helping to prepare snack for the children; helping children develop self-help skills (e.g. teach children to put on coats by themselves); use positive redirection to help children manage behaviour.
Applicants should have: previous experience working with children 3 to 5 years old; positive behaviour management skills; ability to work in a fast-paced setting; and good physical health and mobility.
The program starts in January 2019, it runs for 6 weeks at different times during the year. Hours are 8:30am-12:30pm Monday-Thursday.It Takes place at a school in the Carlington area. At least one volunteer is needed for each day.
