Commitment: Long term (6 months to a year)

Availability: Flexible

Language Preference: Bilingual is an asset

Number of Positions Available: 2

Location: Flexible

Deadline: Apr 30, 2020

Helping With Furniture (HWF) is recruiting for exciting volunteer opportunities as part of its small Fundraising Team. Help shape HWF's future resources and growth by joining a dynamic, creative team.

HWF exists thanks to the generous people who donate their furniture to us, as well as those individuals who contribute financially to the organization. As a Donor Relations Specialist, with the support of the Fundraising Director, you will be responsible for maintaining HWF's relationships with its primary supporters. The specialist will ensure that donors understand the impact of their contributions and truly appreciate what HWF is doing in their community, in order to expand our supporter base and strengthen existing relations. This role is undertaken from home, with regular calls and email check-ins with a supervisor and possible in-person team meetings once every few months.

Tasks will vary according to the candidate's interests, and will include, amongst others:
• Maintaining email communications with our donors (managing the Supporters@hwfottawa.org email account) every week (30 mins to 1 hour)
• Weekly donor stewardship, including sending regular thank you and appreciation letters to our donors (30 mins to 1 hour)
• (optional) Participation in Wednesday move nights to meet with donors and thank donors in person, either at the warehouse or as part of the furniture pickup team
• Documenting the donor experience and HWF’s donor communications protocols, and making suggestions for continuous improvement to the fundraising team (ongoing – 2-3 hours monthly)
• Helping to research options for HWF donor database (with support from other teams) in order to improve relationship management and identify trends and analysis in donation patterns
• Develop new donor relationships (ongoing – 1-2 hours a month)
• Contribute to the overall work of the fundraising team according to interest, including grant proposals and applications, fundraising events (HWF’s annual fundraising gala in April 2020), and more (ongoing – as needed)

• Good communications and writing skills; bilingualism ideal (but not required)
• Self-starter who is able to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Track record of taking initiative and proposing new ideas and solutions
