COVID-19 Update

VO is implementing a plan focused on recruitment and deployment of volunteers to respond to the volunteer needs specific to COVID-19. As part of that plan we will be working with Ottawa Public Health and other agencies to ensure proper screening and training protocals to safeguard the health of those volunteering and those they are assisting. Within the next week, volunteers will be able to register for COVID-19 specific volunteering, including virtual volunteering, food delivery and transportation, and agencies will be able to post and/or send VO their COVID-19 specific needs for volunteer matching. Abbotsford House our Community Support Agency is looking for an individual to teach a basic Mandarin course for seniors. The position would be for a few hours once per week, time as yet to be determined.

How will this volunteer opportunity benefit you?
The volunteer will help to support our Asian community by teaching basic Mandarin to folks who will be travelling and or are interested in volunteering with the Asian community.

How will the organization benefit?
We have a Chinese unit in our long term care home and many families either speak Cantonese or Mandarin. By offering this course we will be able to bring in volunteers to help support our residents.
