VO is recruiting and deploying volunteers to respond to the volunteer needs specific to COVID-19 in Ottawa, Prescott-Russell, Lanark County and Renfrew County while ensuring proper screening and training protocals to safeguard the health of those volunteering and those they are assisting. Please see the intake portals for volunteers, for members, and for other agencies on our hompage. VO’s COVID 19 volunteer deployment program is supported by the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund and the Ottawa Community Foundation.

We are looking for volunteer Movers! Shelter Movers Ottawa is a non-profit that offers free moving and storage for those fleeing abuse. Access to moving and storage services are a significant barrier to fleeing abuse. Movers use their time and energy to help our clients overcome these barriers. They are the ‘helping hands’ and ’boots on the ground’ that support our clients at a critical moment.

Volunteer Opportunity Address
Our moves happen all over the city, however we meet at one secure location before each move.

You will be working with: Aboriginals (First Nation, Metis, Inuit); Visible Minorities or New Canadians; Disadvantaged; LGBTTQ; Men; People with disabilities or medical conditions; Youth (16-18 years); Seniors; Women; Youth (19-24 years); Homeless

How will this volunteer opportunity benefit you?
Volunteers sign up for Moves on their own, and is therefore totally based on your own availability. As a Mover:

You’ll gain hands-on experience on the front lines of our organization, providing moving and storage services for our clients.
You’ll receive training in preparation for your role, and have access to ongoing training opportunities.
You’ll work with a great team of passionate volunteers and supporters.
Movers who complete 3 moves within the previous 3 months can receive a confirmation of volunteering.
Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete an interview process, attend an orientation for new volunteers, in addition to signing a confidentiality agreement and obtaining a criminal record check.

By volunteering as a mover, you are allowing us the ability to help all people who require our services. The need for our services is growing everyday, and with volunteers like you offering your time to help out on a move you are giving us the opportunity to answer every call.
