Youth Mentor- Movie/Film Production (Mentor must be over 21)

Organization: Student Links (Community Living Ontario)

Commitment: Short term (less than 6 months)

Availability: Weekends; Flexible; Evenings; Days

Language Preference: English or French

Number of Positions Available: 2

Location: Flexible

Deadline: Dec 1, 2020

Do you have a passion for movies/film, movie/film production, using online tools to produce, edit or create content? Are you a film maker, involved in production/editing and/or creating some form of video content? If you are willing to impart your experience and knowledge and enjoy working with youth, this is the initiative for you! The student I'm hoping to match is passionate about movies and extremely interested in learning more about film/movie production. The student is quite creative and has some experience doing video editing in his personal time. He is amazing at remembering names of movies, and classifying movies based on year and release dates . The student is more visual and auditory in his learning and enjoys working on the computer, but sometimes feels overwhelmed with conversation—it’s not as easy for him to respond back with lengthy dialogue. I thought if I could find someone who could approach things in a more “hands on” or visual way—it could really work for the student. This could happen by screen sharing ideas or walking him through the steps of how to do certain things—watching the mentor create or edit for example or by watching online tutorials together.

Student Links is an initiative that offers High School students who have an intellectual disability an opportunity to expand on current interests and hobbies, while discovering new possibilities for life after High School.

Your Role as a Mentor:
- Presenting information about your field of expertise
- Introducing a student to your hobby or industry
- Providing an opportunity for hands-on experience

This is an opportunity for you to help a student by sharing something you're passionate about.

Time commitments are flexible. All mentorships are currently happening virtually.
