VO is recruiting and deploying volunteers to respond to the volunteer needs specific to COVID-19 in Ottawa, Prescott-Russell, Lanark County and Renfrew County while ensuring proper screening and training protocals to safeguard the health of those volunteering and those they are assisting. Please see the intake portals for volunteers, for members, and for other agencies on our hompage. VO’s COVID 19 volunteer deployment program is supported by the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund and the Ottawa Community Foundation.

Description

Funded through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, MPower matches youth (aged 15-24) with mentors to encourage and empower them to identify their strengths, explore their passions and achieve their goals as they journey towards adulthood. This program will also serve to connect youth transitioning out of child intervention services with a supportive and dedicated adult mentor. This connection creates a supportive relationship built on mutual respect and helps you develop relationship skills and connections essential for successful transition to independent adulthood

You will be working with: Aboriginals (First Nation, Metis, Inuit); Visible Minorities or New Canadians; Disadvantaged; LGBTTQ; People with disabilities or medical conditions; Youth (16-18 years); Youth (19-24 years)

How will this volunteer opportunity benefit you?
Why Be a Mentor? For just a few hours a couple of times a month, you can help a child succeed. Big Brothers Big Sisters is different from other mentoring organizations in that we seek volunteers who are committed and consistent, willing to serve at least one year. Studies show this commitment to mentoring help kids stay in school, avoid risky behaviour, and experience first-hand the importance of helping others in their community. We are grateful for your willingness to be involved and while it is certainly not a requirement, we welcome you to also become a donor - as you volunteer or wait to be matched.

How will the organization benefit?
By giving your time to a child who needs it, you will allow BBBSO to serve more children and to make more of a difference in the Ottawa community.
