VO is recruiting and deploying volunteers to respond to the volunteer needs specific to COVID-19 in Ottawa, Prescott-Russell, Lanark County and Renfrew County while ensuring proper screening and training protocals to safeguard the health of those volunteering and those they are assisting. Please see the intake portals for volunteers, for members, and for other agencies on our hompage. VO’s COVID 19 volunteer deployment program is supported by the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund and the Ottawa Community Foundation.

About Shelter Movers:
The Shelter Movers is a volunteer-based organization that provides moving and storage services at no cost to women and children experiencing domestic abuse. In collaboration with community partners, we support families transitioning to a life free of violence. The organization originated in Toronto and is currently in the process of expanding to be in every major city across Canada.

Position Summary:
A Marketing and Communications team member will have an integral role in the social media team of Shelter Movers Ottawa. The main responsibilities include producing content for the Shelter Movers Ottawa chapter.

Essential Functions:
Social Media strategy and development, including content creation.

Reports too: Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Initial Objectives:
Develop social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) to support recruitment and development

Skills, Experience and Education:
Experience in communications and media relations considered an asset
Demonstrated experience on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook
Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of Canva and Trello is considered a big bonus!
Experience in brand and events promotion considered an asset
Be self-driven and innovative - be prepared and excited to bring new ideas and procedures!

Other Requirements:
Must complete and pass a criminal background and vulnerable sector check
Must be over 19 years of age
Must be available to attend a mandatory training session

Estimated Time Requirements:
4-5 hours/week initially
3-5 hours/week ongoing (hours are flexible)
This is an unpaid volunteer position
