Abbeyfield Houses Society of Ottawa is a not-for-profit seniors’ residence affiliated with Abbeyfield International, with 1,100 houses in 25 countries worldwide.
Abbeyfield House Parkdale is looking for a Director of Human Resources to coordinate human resources for all paid staff and volunteers including providing orientation, scheduling, conducting regular performance reviews (including salary reviews) and managing any complaints.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain and up-dates job descriptions for all paid staff and members of the Board of Directors;
Develop, implement and update all human resources policies and procedures for the organization including, but not limited to, the following:
Harassment and violence
Code of Conduct
Discrimination
Health and Safety
Compensation
Recruitment and selection of employees and volunteers
Performance Management
Discipline and termination
Conflict resolution
Recommend to the Board changes to policies and procedures that would improve the organization;
Oversee the House Manager and staff by:
Providing appropriate, supportive supervision and on-going feedback
Ensuring that staff are properly trained for their work
Maintaining a healthy work environment
Conduct performance evaluations
Handling disciplinary issues
Communicate regularly with the Director of Residency regarding any resident concerns or requests about staff volunteers;
Leads the recruitment and interviewing of potential Board members, in partnership with the Director of Volunteering.
Administrative Duties:
The Director is responsible for attending monthly meetings and providing a report;
Maintain staff and volunteer records and appropriate paperwork for all human resources decisions;
Work with appropriate Directors and volunteers to ensure that all human resources policies comply with Human Rights, Employment/Labour Standards and all other applicable legislations;
Seek Board approval for all human resources policies that have legal implications for the Board such as screening policies and harassment policies.
Financial Duties:
Work with the Treasurer on salary forecasting for the annual budget.
Qualification:
Knowledge of employment standards and human rights legislation;
Ability to draft policies or plans for the organization.
Estimated Time Commitment:
20 hours per month
