Friend needed for teen girl with special needs in Dunrobin

Organization: Jewish Youth Library of Ottawa

Commitment: Ongoing (more than a year)

Availability: Flexible

Language Preference: English

Number of Positions Available: 1

Location: Ottawa - West

Deadline: Jun 30, 2021

Friendship Circle of Ottawa is seeking a young volunteer (high school or university student) to offer simple companionship on a weekly basis to a 17-year-old girl with special needs. She is extremely shy and interested in music. It is very difficult for her to open up and make friends, so a lot of patience and commitment is important. Online communication is not ideal, so an ability to travel to Dunrobin for in-person (socially distanced for now) visits is important.

Friendship Circle is a registered charity that pairs kids with special needs to volunteers who offer their support and friendship. The kids in our program struggle to make friends and are often bullied, so commitment is important.
