Description

The Ottawa Power Wheelchair Hockey League (OPWHL) is a floor hockey league, established in the fall of 2009, to provide a quality, organized, recreational and social program for people with disabilities. All of the players use power wheelchairs and have limited or no upper body strength and/or mobility and yet they can play hockey, excel and significantly benefit from participating in sport.

We are currently seeking volunteers for the following positions for our new season which is set to begin on November 7th/2021.

1) Assistants:
This position will entail assisting with various tasks such as helping players get prepared for games, equipment setup and take down, assist with keeping score of game, running the game clock. We are always in need of assistants to help deliver this wonderful sport to our members!

2) Referees:
Referees will be tasked to referee our season league and playoff games. You do not need an in-depth knowledge of hockey to excel in this position. You will be trained for this position.
Location: Greenboro Community Center (363 Lorry Greenberg Drive)

2) Coaches:
Coaches will be responsible for being present for their weekly game, and managing their very own team of PowerHockey players. Prior knowledge of sports would be an asset. You will be trained on the PowerHockey specific knowledge.
Day of Week: Sunday 12:00-3:00 (time will vary depending on your position and game schedule)

Our players look forward to playing hockey all week, and it would not be possible without the help of our amazing volunteers. Knowing that, our volunteers feel extremely rewarded and fulfilled that they can make such a positive impact on our players experience within our program, and lives.
