How will this volunteer opportunity benefit you?
If you are a student, professional, or retiree looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity that will have a positive impact on the life of a Syrian refugee to Canada, This is for you. Tasks which are simple for Canadians, such as taking the bus, talking to a doctor, attending a parent-teacher interview, or requesting repairs from a landlord, can be very difficult for refugees who lack English language skills and are unable to attend English classes for different reasons.
This opportunity will allow you to share your knowledge and make a difference in the life of a newcomer to Canada.

How will the organization benefit?
English Language Tutoring for the Ottawa Community (ELTOC) provides individualized and accessible home-based English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring to eligible adult newcomers who cannot attend regular ESL classes by matching them with ELTOC-trained volunteers.

Our volunteers contribute to our vision of a strong, inclusive, multicultural community by helping newcomers gain the confidence and community ties that will allow them to integrate into Canadian society.
