VO is recruiting and deploying volunteers to respond to the volunteer needs specific to COVID-19 in Ottawa, Prescott-Russell, Lanark County and Renfrew County while ensuring proper screening and training protocals to safeguard the health of those volunteering and those they are assisting. Please see the intake portals for volunteers, for members, and for other agencies on our hompage. VO’s COVID 19 volunteer deployment program is supported by the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund and the Ottawa Community Foundation.

Objective:
• To deliver food hampers to community members in need on Friday afternoons

Responsibilities:
• pickup food boxes at the ACO main location
• drive food boxes out to their respective locations (mostly downtown)
• this task should take around two hours
• send the volunteer coordinator an invoice for gas

Required Qualities and Skills:
• Must own a car
• Must be comfortable coming into slight contact with other people (food can be dropped off at the door)
• open-minded and confidentiality-conscious
• Open to learning about HIV/AIDS, sexuality, addictions and mental health, homelessness and poverty

Time Commitment and Place:
• Approximately 2 hours every Friday
• Typically shifts will be from 11:30 - 1:30 on Fridays
• On location at ACO (19 Main Street), and various drop-off locations

Training and Orientation:
• HIV 101 (mandatory)
• Orientation to COVID related safety procedures

Evaluation and Follow-up:
• On-going discussions and support as required
