Job Description Director, Treasurer

Term of Office:

Elected as a Director by members at the AGM to serve for a one year renewable term (up to 6 years).

Once elected as a Director, the Treasurer is appointed by the Board of Directors as an officer.


The Treasurer shall have the custody of the funds and securities of the Corporation, and shall keep full and accurate accounts of all assets and liabilities. Duties include:

•Chair the Finance Committee.
•Render to the President and Board an accounting of all the transactions and a statement of the financial position of the Corporation.
•Serve as an official signing officer of the Causeway Foundation.
•Ensure all legal and financial obligations of the Causeway Foundation are met to date.
•Review the Terms of Reference for the Finance Committee annually and updates as necessary.
•Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and for presentation to the Board at the March Board meeting.
•Monitor all spending of the Causeway Foundation.
•Meet with the Foundation auditors as necessary in preparation and review of the annual audit.
•Recommend an auditor for the Foundation at the AGM as outlined in policy 14.
•Present the financial statement at AGM in June.
•Work with the Building Committee to ensure sufficient investment in the Capital Plan Investment Fund as outlined in policy 15.
Present motions for disbursement of fundraised and donated as outlined in policy 11.
•Support and act as a resource to Foundation staff in preparation of regular financial reports to the Board, investments and in other financial matters as needed.
•Perform such other duties as directed by the Board of Directors

1. Experience managing a budget
2. Must be comfortable with reading and interpreting financial statements
3. Previous board experience or a professional accounting background would be considered an asset
