Description

In 2019, CPAWS Ottawa Valley will be celebrating its 50th anniversary and we have a number of events we would like to host to mark this important milestone! While we have some events lined up, we have lots of space in our calendar for new events as well. We are seeking a dynamic, organized and self starting volunteer to take on the role of Events Coordinator for the organization. The Events Coordinator will work with staff in the office to help build a roster of educational, active and fundraising events for the next year and assist with volunteer recruitment, logistics (venue, budget, etc) and promotion. Examples of planned events for the winter include a guided evening snowshoe hike in early February and an educational talk on Algonquin Park in March. We are expecting about 50 people for the hike and about 150-200 for the lecture. Experience planning events, knowledge of local venues and volunteer coordination would be considered assets.

This opportunity is a great way to learn more about the environmental sector in Ottawa and the historic opportunity in Canada to protect large natural areas. This position is ideal for someone looking to build a resume or who is transitioning to a new career or to retirement. We expect this to be an interesting position, the volunteer will meet great people and get to take part in all of our events.

Celebrating this milestone is important to the organization, but it is difficult to devote staff time to the project due to our small staff and a number of ongoing projects. We hope to make use of the 50th anniversary to bring in new members and supporters and to raise the profile of the organization in the wider community.
